WINE CLASSES

ICONIC PRODUCERS AND BLIND TASTING MASTER SERIES

Introducing a master-level set of classes designed to get you to experience the magic of some of the best producers, regions and styles of wine around the world. Some of these wines retail over $300 a bottle.  As a result, the program is not cheap, however, it does give you the opportunity to taste wines you study, in a fun environment while broadening your palates and having true markers of legacy wines and producers around the world!  So fun! The cost for the entire program is discounted to $795 if you enroll for all 5. Otherwise, the classes vary by price and are listed below under each month.

AUGUST CLASSES

Components of White Wines 101

This class is designed to deepen your understanding and ability to taste white wines. There seems to be confusion among novice wine drinkers who are uninformed about the different styles of whites available in the world. In this class we will be tasting wines you may have never tried or even have heard of and teach you how to break down a white wine, assess it’s quality and age potential while trying 6 different whites.  Costs $41.

Class 1: Aged Rieslings and GGs from the Rheingau

My students also know how much I love and champion the ability of Riesling to age and transform so incredibly.  In this class we will be trying some older Rieslings with bottle age against younger ones so you can really understand why this grape is arguably the best white grape, period. We will also be tasting GG wines which are sourced from grand cru vineyards. Here is the proposed tasting list (subject to availability): Schloss Schonborn 1997, 2001, JB Becker 1990, Barth GG 2015, Wegler GG 2013, Wegler 1990. Costs $90.

SEPTEMBER CLASSES

Components of Red Wines 101

Similar to the components of white class, we will be breaking down red wines to dial down our understanding of tannins, acidity, body, alcohol, the use of oak and how the assess overall quality and flavor complexity. Costs $41.

Class 2: Hermitage vs Cote Rotie Blind Tasting

We are going to be tasting some the iconic producers including Chave, Jabolet, Guigal and Chapoutier from the northern Rhone while comparing and contrasting styles between Cote Rotie and Hermitage.  We will be tasting some big hitters and legendary vineyards including; Chave 2007, La Chapelle 2004, Chapoutier 1990, and Guigal’s La Turque 2007.  Costs $275pp.

OCTOBER CLASSES

Class 3: Producer Focus Gaja

World famous for traveling around the world doing his own marketing, Angelo Gaja is a legend. He is pioneer and true magician with wine.  We will be exploring his wines from both Brunello di Montalcino and Barbaresco. We will also be tasting some older wines which is very exciting including; 1996 and 1998 from Brunello, and a few younger wines from Barbaresco (subject to availability).  Costs $150

The Magic of Madeira

I love these wines!  They are virtually indestructible and so interesting!  In this class we will explore the deep history of this style and taste the top examples and learn about cooked wine!  Do not be mistaken, these are highly complex and fascinating wines.  We will be trying the classic grapes: Sercial, Verdelho, Bual, and Malmsey including one aged in a solera that was started 100 years ago!  Costs $65.

NOVEMBER CLASSES

Class 4: Priorat vs Chateauneuf du Pape Blind Tasting

Yes, these wine regions make wines that are quite different, but both based on Grenache. In this exciting class we will be tasting the top wines and producers from both regions including; Clos Abella, Clos Mogador, Clos Erasmus, Clos de Pape, Beaucastel, and Janasse. Costs $125

Class 5: Graham’s Vintage Port

Many of my students know how much I love vintage ports!  Wow!  The complexity, concentration, and magic that they show with 20+ years of age is truly special- and worth experiencing! This will be the first of the 5 part series focusing on Iconic Producers, regions and styles around the world.  Here is the proposed list of wines we will be tasting (subject to availability): Graham’s 1970, 1977, 1983, 1994, 2000, 2011.
